In this sequence, a beautiful grizzly mother and her adorable blond one-year-old cub walk past us, avoiding the local male bears. The males put on a “cowboy walk” and jaw-opening display, pretending to be menacing in order to avoid a fight. And it works! Bears (grizzly and black) are largely misunderstood animals. They’re just bears, they don’t want to attack or hurt us. These bears have become accustomed to humans, but NOT as a food source. This is a pristine area; we leave no traces of food that bears might associate with us. Bears are aware of our presence, but don’t see us as a source of food. A bear guide accompanies us at all times. And we’ve had some incredible experiences and encounters with these amazing animals. More to come.
