A huge Moose gets rid of its velvet

One of the phases of the rut, and the beginning of things, is when the male loses his velvet. The bone has stopped growing, its antlers are fully formed, and now it’s time to clean out the velvet, the source of nutrients that enables bone growth. It’s a macabre moment.
