A tornado at Lac Brochet
A tornado at Lac Brochet | Aventure Chasse Peche Orignal Chevreuil Outfitters and the great outdoors
A tornado occurred on June 24 at Lac-Brochet, in Ste-Jeanne-d’Arc, Lac-Saint-Jean. According to cottagers in the area, what at first appeared to be a microburst lasted 3 minutes and grew steadily in intensity.
Environment Canada confirmed that this was an EF0 tornado, with winds ranging from 90 to 130 km/h. It’s the first of its kind in Quebec this year.
In its path, it destroyed at least 3 pontoons and damaged docks. In a video filmed on the spot, a pontoon can be seen being tossed through the air as if it weighed no more than a feather. A tree was also uprooted. Fortunately, all local residents were safe.

Chantale Simard’s Youtube channel reads: “A glimmer in the sky caught our attention, we looked up and saw this loop of wind forming right in front of our eyes. It went in behind the trees, we lost sight of it for a few seconds and it came out again right in front of us. It was a pretty intense sensation. 3 seconds and it was gone. It’s a powerful and impressive thing to see happen.”
