Alaskan black bears: the pleasure of fishing. The pink salmon, aka “humpies” (for the male’s pronounced forehead and back) is running. This is the spawning period, the beginning and end of their life cycle, as they return to their natal waters to spawn and die. This annual event attracts all kinds of opportunistic hunters, including black bears. In this video, two “teenagers”, who may be siblings, fish and play together in one of the hundreds of streams where freshwater meets saltwater, where salmon strive to swim upstream to spawn.
