Clay Hayes Hunter Camping, hiking

After spending 74 days (plus a quarantine period) away from my family, I was eager to get back to the hinterland with my boys. Coye and I recently set off on a three-day adventure of camping, hiking, fishing, catching and cooking in the Idaho wilderness. We took our backpacks to a remote alpine lake to fish for cutthroat trout. These lakes are not very busy, and the trout are just waiting to bite!

Coye caught several large trout, and we built a homemade oven to cook the fish over the embers of our campfire. Although it wasn’t an easy ride, Coye did very well. Towards the end of the video, we stand on a point, looking out over the mountains and valleys we’ve just crossed. I asked Coye if, before our hike, he would have thought he could do this. He replied: “Probably not”. But he did, and when I asked him how, he replied: “One step at a time”. I’m proud of it.

Don’t forget to subscribe to the channel. Every week we post a new video on one of the following topics: archery, bowhunting, bowmaking, survival techniques, bushcraft, self-reliance, primitive techniques, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and much more!

For those interested in the gear we used, the backpacks were Kifaru Stryker XLs. Our shelter was the SeekOutside DST.

We make the best traditional archery, bow making, recurve hunting, craftsmanship and survival videos on the web.

Join Clay, Liz and the kids on their outdoor adventures, from bowhunting deer and elk in the mountains of Idaho to hunting wild hogs in Florida, and practicing crafts and survival skills. We hunt and fish because we love it, but it’s also how we get most of our meat.

Hunting is our way of life. We also cultivate a large garden on our Idaho property. This, combined with hunting, fishing and gathering, is how we obtain most of our food.
