Clay Hayes Hunter I caught a BOBCAT with my stick bow!
On a recent trip to South Texas, where I was bowhunting hogs and javelinas, I caught a bobcat with my bow. I’m not much of a predator hunter, but I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity. I hid in the tall grass and made a predatory call with my mouth and hand. After a short wait, a large bobcat appeared, crouching in the grass 10 meters from me. A few more silent cries like a rodent and the wildcat crouched and approached.
He turned to walk away and I drew my fire-hardened hickory crossbow, squeaked once to stop him and let the arrow fly. When I started the day, I had no intention of catching and cooking a bobcat. But once the cat was on the ground, I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve cooked and eaten puma before, which is fantastic, but I’d never eaten bobcat. I stripped it and gave it to Liz. We make the best traditional archery, bow making, recurve hunting, craftsmanship and survival videos on the web.
Join Clay, Liz and the kids on their outdoor adventures, from bowhunting deer and elk in the mountains of Idaho to hunting wild hogs in Florida, and practicing crafts and survival skills. We hunt and fish because we love it, but it’s also how we get most of our meat.
Hunting is our way of life. We also cultivate a large garden on our Idaho property. This, combined with hunting, fishing and gathering, is how we obtain most of our food.
