Clay Hayes Hunter Shooting tips for recurve and longbow – For bowhunting!
With bowhunting season fast approaching, it’s important to shoot every day with your longbow or recurve. In this shooting tips video, Clay Hayes demonstrates some of the techniques he incorporates into his pre-season training routine.
We tend to focus on the results of our archery shots. We want to see this arrow reach the center of gravity! And why not, that’s what we’re aiming for, isn’t it? A poorly-executed shot can hit the target, while a well-executed shot just misses. Instead of concentrating on where the arrows hit, you need to focus on the perfect execution of each stage of archery. If we do this, i.e. if we execute every step of our shooting cycle perfectly, we can have no other result than a perfect shot.
Another tip is to shoot one arrow at a time. This allows you to concentrate entirely on the shot. If it hasn’t reached its destination, ask yourself why and try to isolate the cause. Don’t just take another arrow and try again. By doing so, you give up learning from the mistakes of the previous shot.
When it comes to getting a good shot in a highly stressful situation, such as when a large elk or white bull approaches, it’s essential to keep your emotions in check. One of the best ways to do this is to have already been in such a situation. Unfortunately, most of us have few opportunities to shoot animals. A good way to simulate this situation is to do the mental exercise of replaying a hunting scene in your head just before you shoot. If you do it right, this role-playing exercise can help you prepare for the shot of a lifetime.
Don’t forget to subscribe to the channel. Every week we upload a new video on one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow making, survival techniques, bushcraft, self-reliance, primitive techniques, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and much more!
We make the best traditional archery, bow making, recurve hunting, craftsmanship and survival videos on the web.
Join Clay, Liz and the kids on their outdoor adventures, from bowhunting deer and elk in the mountains of Idaho to hunting wild hogs in Florida, and practicing crafts and survival skills. We hunt and fish because we love it, but it’s also how we get most of our meat.
Hunting is our way of life. We also cultivate a large garden on our Idaho property. This, combined with hunting, fishing and gathering, is how we obtain most of our food.
