COVID-19 – Reminder of current government bans affecting hunting and fishing seasons

Please note that the dates for the opening of the hunting and fishing seasons have been maintained. However, we would like to remind hunting and fishing enthusiasts that the directives and recommendations of the Direction nationale de la santé publique aimed at controlling the COVID-19 epidemic must be respected throughout the coming weeks. Anglers and hunters must therefore comply with these guidelines and recommendations at all times, including :

? Avoid moving from one region or town to another, unless necessary. Leisure-related travel is not considered “necessary”;

? No gathering indoors or outdoors;

✅ Maintain a distance of 2 metres between individuals at all times;

? Camping prohibited in controlled harvesting zones(ZECs).

We ask for the cooperation of all hunting and fishing enthusiasts to ensure compliance with these guidelines.

Of course, hunting and fishing regulations continue to apply. Protection de la faune du Québec services are maintained, in collaboration with wildlife management organizations and wildlife protection assistants.

✳ We remind you that a hunting, fishing or trapping license is required to practice these activities. Permits are available from the sales agents of businesses that provide essential services.

➡ Hunting season regulations for the period April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2022 are available here: https: //mffp.gouv.qc.ca/publications/enligne/faune/reglementation-chasse/index.asp

PRESS RELEASE (MFFP)

COVID-19 and wildlife-related activities – Reminder of current government bans affecting hunting and fishing seasons

Quebec City, April 3, 2020 – While the dates for the opening of the hunting and fishing are maintained, the Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, Pierre Dufour, would like to reiterate the government prohibitions that fishing enthusiasts hunting and fishing will be required to respect. Thus, they must comply at all times with the directives and recommendations of the Direction nationale de la santé publique aimed at containing the COVID-19 epidemic, including :

  • Avoid moving from one region or town to another, unless necessary. Leisure-related travel is not considered “necessary”.
  • No gathering indoors or outdoors
  • Maintain a distance of 2 metres between individuals at all times
  • No camping in controlled-use zones (zecs)

While the Premier of Quebec has asked Quebecers to keep unnecessary travel to a minimum between now and April 13, Minister Dufour would like to ask for the cooperation of wildlife enthusiasts to ensure that this advice is respected.

Of course, hunting and fishing regulations continue to apply. The services provided by Protection de la faune du Québec will be maintained, in collaboration with wildlife management organizations and wildlife protection assistants.

The Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs is counting on the cooperation of those who enjoy wildlife-related activities, and would like to remind you of the obligation to hold a hunting, fishing or trapping licence (except for the zone fishing no 21, where fishing in the St. Lawrence River is authorized without a permit). Permits are available from agents whose activities are listed as essential services.

The sale of turkey hunting licenses began on March 24. As for the mandatory registration of big game and wild turkey, the Ministry will post the measures to be taken on its website before the hunt begins.

Depending on how the situation evolves, the Minister reserves the right to review decisions regarding hunting, fishing or trapping in order to comply with government directives related to COVID-19. Where appropriate, the relevant information will be communicated promptly to the public.

Quote

“The current situation means we have to keep reminding people of the National Public Health Directorate’s recommendations to minimize the spread of COVID-19. That’s why I’m counting on the cooperation of hunting, fishing and trapping enthusiasts to comply with all current regulations.

– Pierre Dufour, Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, responsible for the Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Nord-du-Québec regions

Highlights

  • Hunting, trapping and fishing licenses are not available online. However, they are sold by almost half of the 1,100 sales agents usually available, many of whom own businesses that are part of the essential services (grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations and others).
  • Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19, courses for aspiring hunters and trappers offered by agents of the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs have been suspended. Customers can contact the Fédération québécoise des chasseurs et pêcheurs COVID-19 - Opening of hunting and fishing seasons | ACPNATION and the Fédération québécoise des trappeurs gestionnaires du Québec COVID-19 - Opening of hunting and fishing seasons | ACPNATION for more information on the terms and conditions of these suspensions.
