Rimouski wildlife reserve. Later, in the early 20th century, the land was reclaimed by the government for the creation of several private clubs, no doubt for the benefit of the wealthy. Next comes the creation of a small hunting and fishing reserve open to all, to ensure the protection of wildlife. The success of this initiative led to the creation of Réserve faunique de Rimouski, and here are some of the milestones along the way.

GENERAL PRESENTATION Sépaq Rimouski

The management of natural resources on the territory of Réserve faunique de RImouski is the responsibility of the State, and more specifically of the Ministère de la Forêt, de la Faune et des Parcs (MFFP) and the Ministère de l’Énergie et des ressources naturelles (MERN). Depending on the specific characteristics of the wildlife reservesThe State has granted them a so-called “multiple modulated” vocation within its regional Public Land Use Plans (PATP), which is defined as follows: “Multipurpose use of land and resources, with modalities or rules adapted to particular environmental, landscape, cultural, social or economic conditions”: “Multipurpose use of land and resources, with modalities or rules adapted to particular environmental, landscape, cultural, social or economic conditions.” In other words wordsThe management and use of natural resources, including forests and wildlife, must be carried out by the State in an integrated manner, taking into account all resources on the territory as well as the legal vocation of wildlife reserves for conservation and development. Rimouski has been harvested by designated guaranteed supply agreement beneficiaries (BGADs) (i.e. forestry companies with a harvesting agreement with the MFFP) based on a forestry planning process that falls under the MFFP’s responsibility, since April 1, 2013. The ministry is now responsible for drawing up forest management plans. (PAFI) at the level of each management unit, taking into account, in particular, the allowable cut calculated by the Chief Forester, and the work resulting from local integrated resource and land management tables (TLGIRTs), the orientations and objectives pursued by the government in the regional public land use plans (PATP), as well as the sustainable forest management objectives set out in the Sustainable Forest Development Act (LADTF) and the Sustainable Forest Management Strategy (SADF). Following this exercise, discussions are underway between SépaqMFFP and representatives of forestry companies (BGAD) to integrate into both planning and forestry operations, measures or procedures aimed at minimizing conflicts of use, impacts on wildlife and the landscape, and the atmosphere surrounding the practice of wildlife and recreational activities in wildlife reserves. In To provide wildlife reserve managers with tools for integrated wildlife-forest-recreation-tourism forest management, and to guide the MFFP in harmonizing forest planning on these unique territories so that the various types of forest intervention are more predictable, better adapted and more conducive to the reserves’ particular vocation, Sépaq has carried out several integrated resource management projects. list completed projects
