Descriptions:
Here’s the Hamiota perovalis mussel, imitating the appearance of a fish (prey) flapping in the current to attract a host fish. At the end of the fish-like mucus net, the mullet has deposited glochidiums (mullet larvae). Glochidiums must attach to a host fish in order to enter the juvenile stage. The Hamiota perovalis mullet is found in two southern states: Alabama and Mississippi. Intrigued?
