Moose in search of problems Part 2
A few weeks ago, on November 8, we shared with you “Bull Moose Looking For Trouble Part 1. Now it’s time to read part two. There are so many exciting aspects to the rut: velvet shedding, fighting, rutting pits, cow fighting, raking and bull fighting, to name but a few. I’ve been studying moose since 1980, but never experienced the rutting season until 2016 with Libby.Remember, for about 10 ½ months of the year, moose lead a very peaceful life. But every year, as August draws to a close, instinct kicks in and the gloves come off. This is the period we began studying 8 years ago, and the second part of Looking For Trouble introduces Dagger, the long-toothed bull we’ve seen over the last two years. While you’re watching, it’s worth noting that an adult bull in any region is very likely to do the same thing, although some are more aggressive than others. We already miss the moose, but at the same time, we realize that the last six weeks or so have been an opportunity for them to recharge their batteries, replenish their energy and rest.
