Descriptions:
Often seen on the St. Lawrence plain and in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, the short-eared owl is a species likely to be designated threatened and vulnerable. Its main threat is the disappearance of wetlands and changes in agricultural practices. As short-eared owls nest on the ground in fields, mowing and hay and grain harvesting make eggs and young individuals vulnerable. If they’re lucky enough to grow up, these owls will prey on mice and other small mammals that ravage crops.Global short-eared owl populations are in decline.
