Welcome to part two of 22’s life story, and thank you for joining us today for Moose & Coffee. Of the nine dominant males we’ve studied over the past eight years, 22 is the seventh to live a great life before returning to the wild. It’s not a sad day, it’s a celebration of an extraordinary animal.I entrusted this video to Libby after assembling the clips into a movie, and she took it to another level. When I watched the finished video, at 5:04 seconds from the end, I sat back, remembered him, and peace and admiration came over me.We really hope you enjoy this second part of the 22’s story. It touched a lot of lives, and it really fascinated me!”Rather than write what’s in the video, we’re going to share an event that happened in 2022. It was the peak of the rut in 2022. If you remember, that was the year Grumpy was killed and Swagger took over the whole region and went crazy. He was incredibly strong that year.A friend of ours was hiking in the area and heard two bulls fighting in the woods. Suddenly, 22 appeared in the direction where the fight was taking place, then Swagger.We’ll never know who won, but what we do know is that it was Swagger’s best year and 22’s last.As experienced as 22 was at winning fights, I’m not sure he would have come out on top in this fight, but anything’s possible.22 lived in an area of great beauty and good food. He had the wisdom of a moose. Although he fought often, we never saw him with broken teeth or wounds. We hope you enjoyed this tribute to him.
