Unwanted fish We all accidentally catch “unwanted” species of fish, and we all have our “way” of disposing of them… but do we do it by the book? In fact, it is forbidden to “dispose of these fish out of water”. The regulations are clear: any species not targeted by Quebec fishing regulations is automatically a species that must be returned to the water.

It can be very “tempting” for fishermen to dispose of these undesirable species in other ways, but these species have their place in the food chain, and respect for the ecosystem therefore demands great care on the part of fishermen.
