WINTER TICKS – INSATIABLE PARASITES

Unlike other species, moose don’t have the ability to reach every part of their body to get rid of parasites. That’s why this little creature is called the Moose Winter Tick.Currently, on May 4, 2024, ticks are abundant on moose in one of our sectors at the Lake.We’re seeing obvious weakness in the moose, which will need to replenish their energy and nutrient reserves in the weeks and months ahead. The ticks, insatiable during their many blood meals, were able to extract up to half the total blood volume of the affected individuals, so the fact that these individuals survived the winter is good news all round.
